The ESPN Fantasy Focus Football podcast featured a special rendition of the award-winning Eric Hutchinson theme song, performed by none other than David Wu's Fringemunks. After the rendition opened the podcast episode, it received a warm round of applause by the show's hosts.
ESPN's Matthew Berry had responded via Twitter to Wu's inquiry about presenting the parody group's rendition. Berry admitted during the show that he didn't expect the Fringemunks to follow through.
"We've had many musical groups over the years offer to do a cover of the song, and no one's ever come through," said Berry. "But apparently the Fringemunks came through."
Berry, Nate Ravitz and Stephania Bell preview the final week of the fantasy season in the remainder of the show. The podcast recently won the 2011 People's Choice Podcast Award in the sports category. CLICK HERE TO PLAY FULL EPISODE

Fringe executive producer Jeff Pinkner praises Fringemunks via Twitter
Fringe showrunner and executive producer Jeff Pinkner voiced his approval of David Wu's Fringemunks via Twitter, calling the project "utterly brilliant, awesome, hilarious!" Click here to view the tweet!
Wu had met Pinkner in person, back in February 2009 at New York Comic Con, while interviewing him for The Fringe Podcast.
"The interview was cut short because he and the cast members needed to head down to the Fringe panel in the main auditorium," Wu recalls. "Mr. Pinkner wanted to continue the interview after the panel was finished, but unfortunately I had a plane to catch within a few hours. However, I did hand him a business card with the Fringemunks information on it - at which point he said, 'Oh, that was you?'"
Besides his showrunning duty on Fringe, PInkner is also known for his previous work on Alias and his role as executive producer and writer for the first few seasons of Lost.

David Wu's Fringemunks release video for "The Super Bowl XLV Song"
David Wu's parody project The Fringemunks recently released "The Super Bowl XLV Song," a parody of Bob Seger's classic "Old Time Rock and Roll." Now there's an accompanying YouTube music video - a slideshow of sorts.
The Fringemunks are known mostly for their parodies that recap Fringe episodes, and their 50th such song will be released soon. Once in a blue moon, they'll tackle other topics, as they did a year ago for the critically-acclaimed iPad Song that ended up being plugged by Alyssa Milano (making the song/video a trending Twitter topic across the United States) and featured on multiple tech websites.
Wu recently talked about "The Super Bowl XLV Song" and video on Facebook:
"For me it's a great exercise in attempting to create something that will be susceptible to word-of-mouth - we'll see what happens! And even if it doesn't 'take off,' it was still a fun project."

R.E.M. website favorites Wu's remixes of "It Happened Today"
David Wu's two remixes of R.E.M.'s song "It Happened Today" have been favorited by the band's website, R.E.M.HQ. The "Horse Remix" incorporates instrumental elements from another R.E.M. song, "Horse to Water." The "Piano Remix" features Wu's own piano arrangement, accompanying the vocals.
The remixes were part of a project authorized by the band. R.E.M. producer Jacknife Lee made the multi-track files of the song freely available "to download, remix, reimagine, remake," as the website states. Here are David's remixes:

"David Wu" character on Fringe
In last night's Fringe episode "The Man From the Other Side" (Epis. 2.18), a character named "David Wu" was played by actor James Tsai. As mentioned before, the jury is out on whether this was a conscious decision made by the Fringe writers, or if it was merely a coincidence. (Check out this link to read some of the online debate!)
It was a one-off appearance for the character. It should be interesting to see how David Wu's (that is, the real-life version's) Fringemunks recap the episode later on, as the opportunity to sing about "David Wu" in passing (pun intended) looms.

The Fringemunks' "iPad Song" makes Alyssa Milano laugh, takes country by storm
That's right, The Fringemunks made Alyssa Milano laugh, according to her Twitter message to her 600,000+ followers!
And thanks to her, and to a plethora of others who retweeted her message, The Fringemunks' "iPad Song" (and its music video) has taken the country by storm. The song was even trending on Twitter (entire United States region) for about half an hour today.
For the 'munks, it is their most widely distributed song to date. It is also their first song about the real world, as all their parody songs up until now have been recaps of fictional storylines.

Thanks to SiteMeter, I am able to obtain useful information in regards to my visitors around the world. The most recent 100 visitors (as of this writing) are centered primarily in North America and Europe. It's an interesting set of stats that I feel are encouraging.
Like it or not, the Fringemunks have helped spread my small and feeble (but alive and kicking) audience abroad. Things will likely pick up even more, as Fringe will be shown on Tuesday nights following American Idol soon. 2009 begins; podcast appearance to be taped on Sat., Jan. 3
As 2009 begins, so continues a momentum of projects I began in 2008. This is also the first new year where I have this website in place, so I'm thankful for that.
Also, yes it is confirmed that I will be making an appearance on the Fringe Dwellers podcast, which will be a round table format featuring the two other major podcasts dedicated to the hit FOX TV series, Fringe. Taping is this coming Saturday, and this does mark my "podcast debut" of sorts. Once it is released, I'll post a link.
And, on the left, you will see I purchased my very first guitar: a Fender Strat HSS. You'll hear this on my recordings sooner than you think.
God is good. Looking forward to what happens next!

Fringemunks on the rise
By now, you have probably noticed that the novelty project "The Fringemunks" has taken on a life of its own. The premise: cloned chipmunks Feebo, Notchy and Pie team up with me to recap each new episode of FOX's hit TV series Fringe with a parody song. (The vocals are actually my voice, sped-up, but you probably already figured that out.)
Besides being featured on the Fringe Dwellers podcast and also The Fringe Podcast, the songs have received rave reviews - from J.R. Orci (supervising producer of Fringe), to FringeBloggers.com, to discussion forums around the Fringe community.

Location 10 and Doodz in full rehearsal mode
Like Ken Stringfellow was the "auxiliary keyboard man" for R.E.M. in the earlier part of this decade, so I am for the band Location 10.
And also for the band, Doodz, apparently.
We met last night for a full-fledged rehearsal full of hard rockin songs, all of which are covers (No Doubt, George Michael, Creed, just to name a few). My thumb actually started bleeding because I was playing my keyboard so hard. The band will be performing as part of the Ihaw Ihaw 5 lineup (who will be on a secondary stage at the annual Filipino festival Pista sa Nayon at Seward Park, Seattle).
Location 10 features one of Seattle's great underground rockers, Kris Capiendo, who mans lead guitar in this band and also plays drums for another band. The band also consists of Chris on bass, Gino on guitar, Roy on drums, and Kathy and Way on vocals. As for me the auxiliary man, most of the stuff I'm doing involves organ licks a la Ray Manzarek of the Doors.

"More Than Just Friends" by Rose Marie released today, 4 years after I began composing it
Believe it or not, it started out as a breakup song.
I started writing "More Than Just Friends" in 2004 (then with breakup lyrics under the title "I've Come Around"), and the entire instrumental was completed by February 2005 - but it hasn't seen the light of day until now. This song has experienced many pitfalls that forced the project to be shelved for years. Many songs have come and gone since. These last few months, I felt compelled to finally complete it.
The basic history of the song goes like this: "I've Come Around" combined my friend's breakup lyrics with my own lyrics and music that I composed. WaterMusic recording artist Bridget Hermano actually laid down the vocal tracks for this version in my studio. However, the co-lyricist withdrew herself and her lyrics from the project, leaving me with my music for the song, and with no lyrics. The Bridget vocal, already in the middle of the mixing phase, had to be scrapped as well.
After creating an entirely new set of lyrics under the new title/theme of "More Than Just Friends," I had a hard time finding a vocalist who wanted to tackle the project. Eventually, FHM Online model Rose Marie agreed to lend her talents to the production. After recording her vocals last New Year's Eve, a hard drive failure wiped out the entire project, forcing me to call her in to record it again.
Now, finally, I'm pleased to release the final result. This song is a piece of my musical history, now being heard by you for the first time!

I've had a few official personal websites up in the past, but none of them will likely compare to what's in store for this one. At last, I have the framework for the promotion of my music and the music of those around me, and also a forum for me to discuss music with all of you.
