As we approach Super Bowl XLVIII (just 4 days away, as of this writing), we Seahawks fans are experiencing a wide range of emotions and built-up energy. After all, Seattle fans have had only limited championship success in the last 35 years, and we’ve had to endure a lot of futility and heartache amidst those few milestones. Having said that, a clear optimism can be felt amongst the 12th Man from here to New York.
Let’s release some of this energy through laughter. Here is my countdown of what I feel are the top 10 funniest Seahawks videos of all time. Enjoy!
10. Richard Sherman “Interviewed” by Mean Gene (2014)
Sherman’s post-game interview rant after the 2014 NFC Championship Game is now infamous, and it spawned a series of spoof videos on YouTube. Here is one of them: a mashup of Sherman’s rant and footage of “Mean” Gene Okerlund of the old WWF:
9. Pete Carroll’s Trip to Seattle Delayed (2010)
While Coach Pete gets ready to leave for Seattle, a crazed USC fan (played by Rob Riggle) has a few words for him. This sketch also features Aubrey Plaza.
8. 49ers Fan Reacts to Loss in NFC Championship Game (2014)
Whether or not this reaction was staged, it is likely an accurate depiction of countless 49er fan reactions.
7. Raheem Brock Punk’d (2011)
In June 2011, defensive end Raheem Brock was arrested for allegedly forgetting to pay a check at Philly restaurant Copabanana. A minor situation in a long run, but it spawned a prank by Coach Pete.
6. Late Night Superlatives: Seahawks-49ers (2013)
One of the better “Late Night Superlative” spots by Jimmy Fallon was of the Seahawks-49ers during the lead-up to their 2013 Week 2 matchup in Seattle.
5. Prime Interviews Beast (2014)
It’s Media Day in the week prior to Super Bowl XLVIII! Players are required to participate in media events and interviews. But Beast Mode plays it mysterious, speaks for a few minutes, and ultimately dodges most reporters. Deion Sanders is somehow able to land a quick interview with Lynch, yielding an surprisingly epic interview that ends up with the running back referring to “Beast Mode” in the third-person.
4. Richard Sherman “Punks” Fans on Bourbon Street (2013)
A year before he would appear in the Super Bowl, Sherman took to the streets of New Orleans as a faux-reporter, asking passersby who they think the better corner is between Sherman and Darrelle Revis. Obviously this is before Sherman became a household name/face.
3. Fake Snake Prank (2010)
Leading off with Samuel L. Jackson yelling about snakes on this “Monday-to-Friday plane,” the video segues into a series of Seahawks being startled by a fake snake in a cooler. Hasselbeck’s reaction is a bit sinister.
2. DJ Steve Porter feat. Richard Sherman | “The Best in the Game” (2014)
A word of advice to NFL stars: If your post-game rant becomes infamous nationally, expect to be Auto-Tuned:
1. Shango’s Rant (2012)
John Shango of The Dallas Cowboy Show goes off after America’s Team loses to the Seahawks in Week 2 of the 2012 season.
